Massive pocket doors that separate the double parlors still slide
smoothly after over 130 years of use.
Three marble fireplace mantles still remain, along with some of the original
patterned wood floors.The house is an example of classic Italianate, with massive woodwork and interior brick walls. Some wonderful plaster coffered ceilings have been uncovered and restored. Many of the 9-foot windows still have the original inside shutters to shut out sun and cold. Each room has a private bath, king or queen beds, in-room cable TV, and telephones.
The dining room is on the first floor and coffee is available for the early
risers who might want to take a stroll to the river before
breakfast.Breakfast can include cinnamon rolls or coffeecake, tea breads, biscuits, fresh fruit, quiches, ham, bacon, and sausage as well as juice, coffee or tea.
Your hosts, Leon and Nedra McClellan, will do everything possible to
make your stay pleasant. Though renovation is still on going on the
third floor they will be happy to give you a tour of the house, including the
cupola with a great view of the Mississippi River.Sorry we cannot accommodate pets. Master Card, Visa, Discover, checks & cash accepted. Check in anytime after 1 p.m.
Check out by 11 a.m. is requested in order to have time to adequately
prepare the room for the next visitor.We respectfully request you do not smoke in the house but are welcome to use the front porch. Please give notice if you are not going to fulfill your reservation. Children are welcome. Upon check-in you will receive a room key as well as an outside door key so you may come and go as you please. Leon and Nedra want you to feel at home during your visit to "The Gilded Age."
